Job summary
Be the first friendly face our patients meet. As a Medical Receptionist you're the welcoming voice on the phone and the reassuring smile at the desk guiding people to the right care and keeping the practice running smoothly.
No two days are the same. You'll book appointments, process repeat prescriptions, navigate patients to the right service and support our clinical team behind the scenes. It's varied, people-focused work that makes a real difference in your community.
Why join us? We're a supportive, close-knit team who look after each other as well as our patients. You'll get proper training, the chance to grow your skills, and the satisfaction of knowing your work matters. This permanent role is 27.5 hours across 5 days at £12.71 per hour ideal if you're organised, warm and calm under pressure.
No medical experience needed just a caring attitude and a willingness to learn. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
Please be aware that this role is 5 days per week Monday to Friday. Shift patterns are 07:45-13:15 and 13:00-18:30.
If you are a registered patient of Market Surgery, you will be required to change to another GP Practice
Main duties of the job
As the first point of contact for patients, you'll keep the front of house running answering calls, greeting visitors and making sure everyone reaches the right person or service. Alongside this sits a mix of behind-the-scenes admin that keeps the practice ticking: managing the appointment diary, handling prescription and record requests, and providing clerical support to the wider team. You'll also help patients get the most from digital tools like the NHS App, and work closely with colleagues across the practice to keep communication flowing.
In short: a busy, varied front-line role that blends people skills with organisation and attention to detail.
About us
Market Surgery is a friendly, well-established GP practice at the heart of Wath upon Dearne, caring for our local community with a genuine sense of pride. We're a busy practice, but we never lose sight of what matters most looking after our patients, and looking after each other.
Our team is warm, supportive and close-knit. From reception and admin through to our nurses and GPs, everyone plays their part and no one is left to struggle alone. We work hard, we help each other out, and we like to think we have a good laugh along the way too. New starters are made to feel welcome from day one.
We're proud of the care we give and always looking to do things better, so you'll be joining a practice that values fresh ideas and supports you to grow. You'll get full training, ongoing development, and a real chance to build a rewarding career in primary care.
Benefits include membership of the NHS Pension Scheme, generous annual leave, and the satisfaction of doing work that genuinely makes a difference to people's lives every single day.
If you want to be part of a team that cares about its patients and its people we'd love to welcome you to Market Surgery.

If, because of hearing loss, you are unlikely to hear your name on the public address system, please notify a member of staff who will make arrangements to notify you when your doctor is ready to see you. A similar enquiry should also be made by partially sighted or blind patients if you do not have a sighted person to assist you. Be the Mental Health Leader Patients Need - Right at the Heart of Primary Care
Are you passionate about transforming mental health support where people live, work, and thrive?
Were looking for a dedicated Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our innovative, compassionate, and community-focused team in Cockermouth and Maryport. In this role, you'll support people with mild to moderate mental health needs right at the heart of primary care where early support can have the greatest impact. We are happy to consider applicants looking to work 22.5-37.5 hours per week.
You'll work alongside GPs, Physiotherapists, Clinical Pharmacists, Occupational Therapists, Podiatrists, Social Prescribers, and other allied professionals to offer joined-up care that puts patients first. Together, were rethinking how mental health is managed in General Practice and we want you to join us on our journey.
This role is well suited to clinicians who enjoy autonomous decision-making, variety, and working at pace within primary care, rather than those seeking a traditional therapy-based caseload.
As a Mental Health Nurse working at Enhanced Level Practice (level 7), you'll play a central role in delivering the PCN's mental health offer. You will be embedded within GP practices, acting as a first point of contact for patients with mental health issues in primary care.
Main duties of the job
This role operates within a busy primary care environment, where timely access and early intervention are key. Clinicians work within structured clinic templates, supporting a consistent and manageable flow of patients.
Up to approximately 80 appointment slots per week will be available within your clinic template. As is typical in primary care, not all patients attend, and not all slots will be filled. This generally equates to delivering around 13-14 patient contacts per day across a mix of new assessments and follow-ups.
You'll be supported to deliver high-quality, structured consultations that prioritise safe, effective, and person-centred care, while helping patients access the right support at the right time.
You will support patients presenting with conditions such as depression, anxiety, sleep issues, and adjustment disorders, while maintaining strong relationships with local Community Mental Health Teams and VCSE partners.
About us
Promni Health reflects who we are today; a fully managed clinical service provider working exclusively with the NHS to deliver high-quality diverse clinical service solutions aligned to local needs; delivering across primary care, community and neighbourhood health systems.
Our services are recognised as best-in-class for our industry, recently winning the 'Best in Primary Care & Diagnostics' LaingBuisson Awards in 2023 and 2025 awards. HSJ Independent Healthcare Provider Finalists in 2025 and 2026; including our Outstanding Contribution to Preventative Care. Healthinvestor award finalists 2026.
We directly employ over 400 talented clinician (First Contact Practitioners, Enhanced Practice Nurses, Podiatrists, Occupational Therapists & Advanced Practitioners) serving 1000+ GP practices and a patient population of over 9 million. We conduct over 1 million patient consultation appointments per year.
Voted UKs best workplaces/best for development with a clinical staff retention rate of over 80%.
