Job summary
Join Cardiac Physiology at Newcastle Hospitals
There has never been a better time to join our Cardiac Physiology team.
As one of the largest and most diverse cardiac services in the region, we provide both a comprehensive local service for the people of Newcastle and highly specialised cardiology care for patients from across the North East and beyond. This unique combination offers exceptional opportunities to develop your skills and gain experience across a wide range of specialist diagnostic, and interventional cardiac services.
We are continuously investing in our future through innovation and service development. Our department has recently received a new fleet of state-of-the-art echocardiography machines, and we are upgrading our digital systems designed to improve interoperability and enhance patient care. We deliver cardiac physiology across two sites, including our modern, purpose-built facilities at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and comprehensive, well established Echo services at the Freeman hospital. We are also working closely with estates colleagues on exciting plans to further enhance our facilities at the Freeman Hospital site.
You'll work alongside a dynamic, supportive team of consultant cardiologists, cardiac physiologists (Practitioners and Scientists), and multidisciplinary colleagues who are passionate about innovation, quality improvement and delivering outstanding patient care.
Main duties of the job
We are equally committed to investing in our people. As part of our "Forward Together" programme, we have developed a new training, development and mentorship programme for staff at every stage of their career. This includes structured support for new starters and progressive roles in Cardiac Physiology, clear development pathways, mentorship opportunities, and our new e-preceptorship programme to help track learning and professional growth.
Our ambition is to create a culture that encourages curiosity, continuous learning, reflective practice and open feedback, enabling everyone to reach their full potential. Whether you are newly qualified, looking to develop specialist expertise or ready to take the next step in your career, Newcastle Hospitals offers the support and opportunities to help you succeed.
Join us and be part of a forward-thinking team helping to shape the future of cardiac care.
About us
As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.
With around 2 million contacts with patients every year, we deliver care from:
- Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
- Freeman Hospital
- Newcastle Dental Hospital
- Cramlington Manor Walks
- Urgent treatment centres
- Newcastle Fertility Centre
- Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria
- Northern Genetics Service
These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.
We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.

We are looking for someone who is able to multitask in a busy environment, communicate confidently, prioritise their workload, meet deadlines and build strong working relationships with a variety of people.
