Job summary
Berkshire Healthcare's 'Outstanding' Learning Disability Service is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join Campion Ward, our 9-bed LD inpatient unit at Prospect Park Hospital. We are pleased to offer a Recruitment premium of £15,000 and relocation allowance of £8,000 (if applicable) for external candidates.
This 11 PA post includes the opportunity for up to 2 PAs to be dedicated to a special interest, whether that's in research, leadership, QI or service development. And whilst a visible presence on the ward is important, there's also flexibility for hybrid working.
This complex and rewarding role is at the heart of a compassionate and forward-thinking service. You'll work closely with an experienced MDT, with our Community and Intensive Support Teams, partner agencies and families to provide excellent care for people with a learning disability and significant mental health or behavioural needs. You'll enjoy challenge and will benefit from a strong peer network of LD consultants, the wider medical team and our leadership team.
Our service is rated as 'Outstanding' by the CQC and consistently scores highly for staff engagement. Our LD team have exceptionally high survey scores including compassionate leadership, staff development, flexible working, and staff wellbeing.
You'll be joining a forward-thinking, well-connected team, with opportunities to develop your interests and contribute to our evolving LD inpatient pathway.
Main duties of the job
As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:
- Hold consultant responsibility for diagnosis, management and treatment of allocated inpatients.
- Provide medical leadership to the inpatient service, working closely with the Ward Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist and wider multidisciplinary team.
- Supervise and support other medical staff, ensuring high standards of care and effective teamwork.
- Act as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act for allocated patients.
- Arrange cross cover with other Consultants in the Learning Disability Service, as agreed with the Associate Director and Medical Lead.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and CPD activities.
- Participate in the Community Mental Health Framework and support the transition of patients between inpatient and community settings.
- Maintain clear communication with families, carers, GPs, social care, and partner agencies.
- Ensure accurate documentation, risk assessment and capacity evaluations in line with Trust and CQC standards.
- Lead the team in maintaining AIMS accreditation and compliance with CQC requirements.
- Provide expert liaison, reports and evidence for external bodies such as the Court of Protection, Home Office, and safeguarding authorities when required.

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on a permanent basis.
Your work within the Critical Care Unit at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust will be based at Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) & you will also be expected to provide cross cover for our second site, Chorley & South Ribble District General Hospital (CDH).
There is a 34-beded critical care unit admitting over 1300 patients per year at Royal Preston Hospital, this is a mixed unit made up of level 2 & 3 beds. It has a varied case mix including General Medicine, General Surgery, Trauma, Vascular, Renal Neurosciences, Upper-Gastrointestinal and Maxillofacial Surgery.
There's also an Enhanced Care Unit at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital run by 21 Consultants with an interest in Intensive Care, along with junior support staff.
The unit at Preston has accreditations for all stages of Intensive Care Medicine training.
The Department has undergone a period of rapid expansion, which is reflected in the age and attitude of its career grade members.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Specifically adopt, in conjunction with colleagues, an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the critical care services for the Directorate.
- Provide a Critical Care service across the Trust,
- Participate in the trainee critical care rota on both hospital sites with additional cover during colleagues' absence.
- Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than fulltime and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.
- Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
- Exercise the freedom to develop specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources.
- Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.

During your 15-month contract, full practical in-house training will be provided, you will undertake a level 2 Specialist Btec in The Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Support Staff, this will provide you with the skills to work as a Pharmacy Assistant, alongside the knowledge you will need to support your pharmacy career. You must be a team player, keen to further your education, and have a good attention to detail as well as the ability to work accurately in a busy environment and be able to communicate clearly with patients and staff.

Job summary
Urgent Treatment Centre - Clinical and Operations Manager (Salary £57,528 - £64,750* basic salary + 4% additional for Lead Role & Prescribing premium)
We are looking for the lead for our friendly and supportive team at Faversham Urgent Treatment Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for the smooth running and future development of our thriving UTC service.
The UTC has access to X-ray and point of care testing. The UTC team has 13 practitioners, supported by GPs and HCAs.
The UTC is open 7 days a week 8am to 8pm. This position requires working some Bank Holidays, regular Saturdays and Sundays, evenings and other cover when needed.
An independent prescribing qualification would be beneficial but is not essential.
Staff working out of hours will receive an unsocial hours addition. This is paid at additional 30% rate for working on a Saturday and additional 60% rate for working on a Sunday or Bank Holiday, during contracted hours.
We also give a prescribing premium of £3,000 gross per annum to FTE UCPs that have successfully passed the prescribing qualification and have become independent prescribers, payable over 12 months. This is pro-rata for part-time UCPs.
A standard Disclosure and Barring Service check will be carried out as part of our recruitment procedures and also regularly during employment. The responsibility for payment of this lies with the Practice.

Southwest Pathology Services (SPS) is seeking a highly motivated and organised Biomedical Scientist, with HCPC registration and IBMS Specialist Portfolio to join our friendly Infection Science team. SYNLAB UK & Ireland has a strong track record of working in partnership with the NHS to enhance pathology services through successful joint ventures, including SPS.
For over 10 years, SPS has supported healthcare improvement across Somerset. We hold ISO15189 UKAS accreditation and are an HCPC-approved laboratory for IBMS Registration and Specialist Portfolio training.
SYNLAB has a strong commitment to investment in both people and services. The laboratory has one of the first new generation Kiestra automated platforms in the UK, with over 40 staff processing 400,000 samples per year.
You will be based within the Infectious Sciences laboratory (including Bacteriology, Parasitology, Virology, Molecular and Mycology), at the Hub laboratory site in Taunton. There will be a requirement to rotate within all areas, subject to completion of suitable training. The department operates 7 days per week with rota for weekend working, on-call and bank holidays- all these have pay enhancements.

Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
- To perform and interpret routine and specialist Biomedical investigations autonomously to provide patients results within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of senior staff.

- Act as the lead specialist for a designated area within Infection Sciences, such as Quality Management, Health & Safety, Information Technology, or a specific technical discipline, providing expert oversight, driving service development, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and policies.

Main duties of the job

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a patient facing role to clinically assess and treat patients using their expert knowledge of medicines for specific disease areas
Be a prescriber, or completing training to become a prescriber, and work with and alongside the general practice team
Be responsible for the care management of patients with chronic diseases and undertake clinical medication reviews to proactively manage people with complex polypharmacy, especially the elderly, people in care homes, those with multiple co-morbidities (in particular frailty, COPD and asthma) and people with learning disabilities or autism (through STOMP the Stop Over Medication Programme)
Provide specialist expertise in the use of medicines whilst helping to address both the public health and social care needs of patients at the PCNs practice(s) and to help in tackling inequalities
Provide leadership on person-centred medicines optimisation (including ensuring prescribers in the organisation conserve antibiotics in line with local antimicrobial stewardship guidance) and quality improvement, whilst contributing to the quality and outcomes framework and enhanced services
Through structured medication reviews, support patients to take their medications to get the best from them, reduce waste and promote self-care
Have a leadership role in supporting further integration of general practice with the wider healthcare teams (including community and hospital pharmacy) to help improve patient outcomes, ensure better access to healthcare and help manage general practice workload
Develop relationships and work closely with other pharmacy professionals across PCNs and the wider health and social care system
Take a central role in the clinical aspects of shared care protocols, clinical research with medicines, liaison with specialist pharmacists (including mental health and reduction of inappropriate antipsychotic use in people with learning difficulties), liaison with community pharmacists and anticoagulation
