Job summary
The Learning & Development Officer is responsible for working closely with the Director of People & Organisational Development in supporting the design, delivery and development of the education and training across the hospice group.
Main duties of the job
They will coordinate and organise all in house and external training programmes, maintain accurate records, monitor compliance and support a learning culture across St Giles. They will provide full support for preparing documentation, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard and deadlines are met.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with delivering learning sessions, handling and dealing with all requests that come through the L&D department, supporting with data, audit, evaluations and coordinating all invoices.
They will provide essential administrative support to ensure the smooth, efficient delivery of St Giles learning and development initiatives to ensure we remain compliant through regulatory standards and frameworks.
The role will also maintain effective working relationships across the hospice to support efficient service delivery.
About us
St Giles Hospice is a registered charity founded in 1983 by the Reverend Paul Brothwell, originally to improve the care of local people dying with cancer.
We now support patients, and their loved ones, living with a terminal illness. Our dedicated team provides individually-tailored care, free of charge, either at the hospice or in patients own homes across our communities.
We spend close to £10 million a year providing our specialist services. With less than a quarter of this funded by the Government, we rely heavily on donations and income generation from the local community.

Job responsibilities
The role entails but is not limited to:
Employee Education & Training (including external education)
To coordinate internal study days and webinars, including scheduling of dates, arranging facilitators, room bookings and creating agendas where necessary
To ensure lesson plans and presentations, as appropriate, are received in good time and that these are stored as required, ready for use on the day of training
To ensure all training and education content is in line with St Giles brand
To create flyers and emails to promote the learning opportunities to the relevant employees, in conjunction with the Marketing & Communications Department
To work closely with all departments to advise when training and competencies for staff are due for completion
To coordinate staff booking requests, cancellations and changes and create attendance lists for all sessions
To provide on the day support for study days and webinars as appropriate
To develop course evaluations, collate the results and share with the facilitators as appropriate, highlighting any areas of concern and ensuring feedback is received on improvements/changes, if applicable.
To create and send attendance certificates to all delegates on completion of their training
To ensure all training activity is accurately recorded on the employee training system
To keep a clear log of all further education and other external training requests from employees, distribute training agreements and other correspondence as appropriate and ensure signed agreements are returned and logged as required
To support the recording and reporting of apprenticeships in conjunction with the Director of People & OD
Schedule, organise, and communicate training sessions (face-to-face and virtual) across regions using systems provided.
Liaise with L&D Partners, managers, and staff to ensure maximum attendance and minimise disruption to service delivery.
Maintain the L&D calendar/schedule and ensure available to managers in an agreed appropriate time frame.
Generate compliance reports for managers, senior leaders, and regulatory bodies.
Support audits and inspections by providing accurate and timely evidence of training records
To support gaining funds for apprenticeships in conjunction with the Director of People & OD
To maintain accurate records to monitor and report on employee attendance
Ensure the clinical, medical and non-clinical competency frameworks are kept up to date and reflect individual training records
Support with the preparation and administration of training needs analysis

Job summary
The Community Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Specialist Palliative Care provides expert advice, assessment and support for patients with advanced, progressive and life-limiting illnesses in the community. The postholder works autonomously within a specialist multidisciplinary team and closely with the Consultant in Palliative Medicine to support complex clinical situations. The role is primarily advisory and includes specialist assessment, complex symptom management, advance and end-of-life care planning, education and care coordination.
As part of the specialist palliative care multidisciplinary team, the CNS provides expert clinical assessment, advice, education and care coordination. The postholder works closely with GPs, community nurses, hospices, hospitals, social care and other professionals to support personalised and responsive care.
The post will be based with the Community CNS Specialist Palliative Care Team in the west of the county. While the primary base is in the west, the postholder will be expected to work across the whole service as required to meet service needs, supporting colleagues and patients across other areas and ensuring continuity and equitable access to specialist palliative care.
Main duties of the job
Provide specialist nursing assessment, advice and support for patients with complex palliative and end-of-life needs, working with families and the multidisciplinary team.
- Undertake holistic assessments and develop individualised care plans.
- Provide specialist advice on symptom management, including pain, breathlessness, nausea, anxiety and agitation.
- Support advance care planning, treatment escalation and care preference discussions.
- Provide specialist advice during the last days and hours of life.
- Support community teams to enable patients to remain at home where appropriate.
- Recognise deterioration and ensure appropriate escalation.
- Act as an expert resource for community teams, GPs, care homes, patients and carers.
- Work with hospices, hospitals, primary care, social services and voluntary organisations to promote continuity of care.
- Advocate for patients and families, respecting their wishes, dignity, privacy and individual needs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records.

An exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Palliative Care Nurse to join the Specialist Palliative Care team at West Cumberland Hospital, providing high-quality, person-centred care to patients and their families. The role offers the opportunity to develop specialist palliative care skills, working alongside Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), the Consultant in Palliative Medicine and the wider multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of compassionate care across the hospital.
The post holder will manage a clinical caseload, prioritising and responding appropriately to the fluctuating and sometimes unpredictable needs of patients and families. They will work with a high degree of autonomy, using professional judgement and seeking support from senior colleagues when required. The post holder will work flexibly across both hospital sites and provide support to community teams where required, according to the needs of the service.
This would be an ideal role for someone who has some knowledge and experience in palliative care and would like to develop their skills and pursue a specialism in this area of care, supported by an experienced specialist team.
Based at West Cumberland Hospital, the post will support patients with palliative and end-of-life care needs, working closely with the wider clinical team and community services. The role is 30hrs per week, worked over 4 days -Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:30.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred specialist palliative care to patients and their families across West Cumberland Hospital.
- Work alongside Clinical Nurse Specialists, the Consultant in Palliative Medicine and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide specialist advice, assessment and support for patients with complex palliative care needs.
- Contribute to the assessment, management and review of patients, supporting effective symptom control, advance care planning and end-of-life care.
- Work collaboratively with hospital teams and community services to support safe, coordinated and timely care and discharge planning.
- Contribute to education, training and mentorship of colleagues within the hospital and wider multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in line with professional, clinical governance and organisational standards.

Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working Receptionist/Administrator to join our friendly team in the beautiful village of Godstone. The position is part-time or full time, but a minimum of 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This will be a combination of shifts, either 8.00am to 4.00pm or 10.30am to 6.30pm, with occasional late-night cover until 8.00pm on a Thursday.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of this role include dealing with patient enquiries face to face, over the telephone, and through our interactive website or the NHS App.
You will manage patient requests via our digital triage platform, as well as communicate with GPs and other healthcare professionals to ensure that a safe and efficient service is provided to our 7,000 patients.
Daily administrative tasks will include booking appointments, prescription management, registering new patients, managing the generic email inbox and scanning and coding all incoming correspondence, including clinic letters from hospital consultants and discharge summaries.
Managing appointment requests and queries via our interactive website is a key part of this role, as this is the main route of communication between patients and the practice. SystmOne is our clinical IT system, and Accurx is used as our digital messaging platform. Full training will be provided as part of the induction process.
This is a varied role offering training and development opportunities in-house and across the wider DHC GP Federation. This role is suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where each day brings new challenges and successes.

The High-Volume User (HVU) team currently provide assessment and community support to patients who frequently attend the Accident and Emergency Department at the University Hospital North Midlands (UHNM). As a key member of the Estates and Facilities Division, youll be part of a highly responsive team providing 24/7 support across the Trusts sites, including Wonford, Heavitree and Mardon House.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Responding to incidents involving theft, assault, anti-social behaviour, and other security concerns
- Supporting clinical teams with patients experiencing confusion, delirium, dementia or post-operative delirium
- Adapting your approach to ensure all interactions with patients are handled with empathy, professionalism and care
- Using de-escalation techniques as a first approach, backed up by accredited physical intervention training
- Writing accurate and timely incident reports and statements to support investigations or police involvement
- Monitoring and operating CCTV systems and supporting the Trusts car parking team as required
Youll be working an average 37.5 hours per week on a 4-week rolling rota with 12 hour day and night shifts, with enhancements for nights, weekends and bank holidays. These enhancements typically amount to an additional £5,000 per annum pro rata on top of the basic salary.
What we're looking for
