Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team of friendly, supportive urology consultants. The successful candidate will join an established urology service which receives referrals from Somerset, North, South, and East Devon. We would encourage applications from individuals with skills to complement our existing team and would particularly welcome applications from individuals with an interest in pelvic oncology, joining our current three robotic pelvic surgeons. The post has significant scope for development with the interests of the individual including integration of newer technologies to treat pelvic urological cancers.
We offer a well-established general adult and paediatric urology service. We are a high-volume tertiary cancer referral centre offering robotic pelvic and upper tract surgery on the DaVinci Xi platform and provide a comprehensive stone and bladder outlet service (TURP, REZUM, Aquablation, Urolift and HoLEP). Our services are supported by a large and highly skilled specialist nursing team, surgical care practitioners, and a physician associate, working in established MDTs.
Main duties of the job
The departments of Urology at Exeter, North and South Devon are committed to a long-term partnership and as such the candidate will be expected to participate in an Exeter based on-call rota. Supporting this is a full urology specific middle grade rota. The role may involve some cross site working as the service evolves and works closer with our neighbouring hospitals. The Urology Department at Exeter has a dedicated urology investigation unit at Ottery St Mary with facilities to undertake clinics including one-stop clinics, flexible cystoscopies, TULA and LATP biopsies, and also houses our Urology Nurse Specialists offering flow clinics, urodynamics, intravesical instillations, and a range of other services including a dedicated recurrent UTI clinic. We have a surgical admissions ward and a Urology ward based on the Exeter site.
We are actively involved with research and recruit patients into a wide range of clinical trials. We have strong links to the Medical School and are highly active participants in Medical Education.
For more detail about the main duties of this role, please see the job description section below. As a key member of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients to stay healthy, when they need it most.

Stretching across Northern, Eastern and Mid Devon, we have a workforce of over 15,000 staff, making us the largest employer in Devon. Our core services, which we provide to more than 615,000 people, cover more than 2,000 square miles across Devon, while some of our specialist services cover the whole of the peninsula, extending our reach as far as Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
We deliver a wide range of emergency, specialist and general medical services through North Devon District Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford).

We also offer primary care services, a range of specialist community services, and Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC).
Our state-of-the-art equipment, leading technologies and strong links to local universities put us at the forefront of research and innovations, enabling us to provide world-class care to our local communities.
Its never been a more exciting time to join the Royal Devon, as youll help to shape our services as we continue along our integration journey.
