Salaried GP
Brighton | 46 sessions per week | £84,660 per annum based on 6 sessions
Help shape how primary care is delivered in your Brighton community.
At IC24, we're building something ambitious in Brighton - and we're looking for GPs who want to help shape it.
Over the last two years, our Brighton practices have been on a significant transformation journey. We've made substantial changes to the way we work and are now bringing our Sussex practices much closer together, creating stronger links between teams and sharing expertise, resources and support across our services.
We're now taking the next step.
Allied Medical Practice, Church Surgery and School House Surgery are coming together as part of a wider vision for primary care in Brighton, with plans to move into purpose-built practices next year. This will give us the capacity to significantly grow our patient population and create a modern, sustainable primary care service for the future.
We're looking for a Salaried GP who wants to be part of that journey.
This isn't simply an opportunity to walk into a finished model and deliver the same clinics in the same way year after year.
It's an opportunity to bring your clinical experience, ideas and judgement to a service that is evolving - and help shape what it becomes.
If you enjoy improving things, working collaboratively and having a genuine influence on the way care is delivered, we'd like to hear from you.
What you'll focus on
Delivering high-quality General Practice
You'll provide comprehensive primary care through face-to-face and virtual consultations, clinical administration and home visits where appropriate.
You'll have the clinical autonomy to manage your patients effectively, while being part of a supportive team that values good medicine and good patient care.
Building relationships with your patients
We're looking for GPs who value continuity, take the time to understand their patients and enjoy the breadth and variety that General Practice offers.
You'll care for a diverse population with a wide range of clinical, psychological and social needs.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team
You'll work alongside experienced GPs, Practice Nurses, pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
We're increasingly connecting our Brighton practices and wider Sussex primary care services, creating opportunities to share expertise, learn from one another and provide more joined-up care.
Bringing your clinical interests
Our practices support a broad range of clinical needs, including long-term conditions, mental health, sexual health, HIV care and women's health.
We're particularly interested in hearing from GPs with experience or a clinical interest in Women's Health, but we're equally interested in what you can bring to the wider service.
We want our GPs to be able to develop areas of interest and use their expertise to benefit both patients and colleagues.
Improving the way we deliver care
This is where your influence can really make a difference.
As our services develop, there will be opportunities to contribute to quality improvement, clinical audits, health promotion, QOF, locally commissioned services and service development.
We're looking for people who don't just identify what isn't working but are interested in working out how to make it better.
Helping shape the future of the practices
We're ambitious about what our Brighton services can become.
You'll have opportunities to work with clinical and operational colleagues to develop new ways of working, improve patient pathways and help shape the model of care as our practices grow.
You won't be expected to simply fit into the way things have always been done.
We want you to bring your experience, challenge constructively, share ideas and help us build a service that works better for patients and clinicians.
This is a role for a GP who likes to build
We're deliberately looking for people who are comfortable with change and motivated by improvement.
You may be at your best when:
- You're given a challenge and enjoy finding a solution.
- You like having a voice in how a service develops.
- You're comfortable when not everything is perfect yet.
- You enjoy working collaboratively rather than operating in isolation.
- You can adapt when priorities, processes or services change.
- You see opportunities where others see problems.
- You enjoy sharing your experience and learning from others.
- You care about the wider patient population, not just the individual consultation.
- You want to leave a service better than you found it.
If you're looking for a completely established practice where your role is simply to deliver clinics within a fixed model, this probably isn't the opportunity for you.
But if you want to help build the future of primary care in Brighton, influence how care is delivered and see the impact of your ideas, this could be a very exciting time to join us.
Who this role suits
You'll be a GMC-registered GP included on the National Performers List who enjoys working collaboratively and wants to play an active role in developing primary care.
You'll bring:
- Experience or a strong clinical interest in Women's Health
- A broad interest in General Practice and confidence managing a varied caseload
- Experience caring for patients with complex clinical needs, including mental health, HIV and gender reassignment
- Strong clinical judgement and a commitment to evidence-based care
- A genuine commitment to continuity of care and building long-term patient relationships
- Excellent communication skills
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility to work across our Brighton practice sites
- A positive and adaptable approach to change
- A commitment to high-quality, compassionate patient care
Most importantly, you'll be a GP who cares about how primary care works, not just the care you personally deliver.
Let's be honest about the opportunity
General Practice is rewarding, but it can also be demanding.
You'll care for patients with a broad range of health needs, balancing face-to-face consultations, telephone appointments, clinical administration and occasional home visits. Some clinics will be busy, and you'll regularly make complex clinical decisions while managing competing priorities.
You'll also be working across practice sites and within a service that is continuing to change and develop.
We don't want to pretend everything is already perfect.
We're building and improving - and that's precisely why this is an interesting time to join us.
You'll have the support of experienced colleagues and a wider IC24 primary care community, but you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to how the service develops.
If you're a GP who is resilient, adaptable, clinically curious and motivated by making things better, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference here.
Why IC24?
We are Integrated Care 24 (IC24), the leading not-for-profit Social Enterprise providing innovative and patient-focused primary care services.
IC24 is committed to improving access to health and social care for our patients and reducing demand on secondary care services. We provide services to over six million patients, including GP Out of Hours, NHS 111, Primary Care and Integrated Urgent Care services.
Every day, our people help patients access the care they need, when they need it most.
Our Primary Care teams are supported to work collaboratively, develop specialist interests and contribute to service improvement while maintaining high clinical standards.
You'll join an organisation that invests in its people, encourages innovation and recognises the importance of creating an environment where clinicians can build rewarding, sustainable careers.
You'll also be part of a wider organisation providing NHS 111, GP Out of Hours, Primary Care and Integrated Urgent Care services, giving you the opportunity to work within a broad clinical community and benefit from experience across different parts of the NHS.
What's in it for you?
- Salary of £84,660 per annum based on a 6-session week.
- £14,110 per session annually, including paid administration time between clinical sessions.
- Opportunity to join the NHS Pension Scheme.
- 6.6 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave and pay.
- Employee Assistance Programme including free 24/7 counselling and occupational health support.
- Professional development and continuing education opportunities.
- Access to our employee rewards and discount platform.
- Blue Light Card and NHS discount schemes.
Location: Allied Medical Practice School House Surgery & Church Surgery, and Ship Street Surgery, Brighton (cross-site working required)
Hours: 46 sessions per week (28.5 hours for 6 sessions), preferably Monday to Wednesday but there is flexibility here for the right person.
We celebrate brave ideas and brave people.
Due to the nature of this position, employment is subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK, a satisfactory enhanced DBS check with barred list checks and satisfactory references.
We have a duty to safeguard, protect and promote the welfare of those who use our services and our employees. This means we take every step we can to protect people from harm, abuse and neglect.
We are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, including ethnic minority communities, disabled people, LGBTQ+ communities, neurodiverse individuals and other under-represented groups. Working closely with the Barnet Primary Care Research Unit, academic and research teams, GP practices, clinicians, community organisations, care homes and patients, the post-holder will help increase research participation and embed research within everyday primary care. They will support research study set-up and delivery, administration, participant identification and engagement, recruitment activity, data collection, study documentation and communication with participating organisations.
The post-holder will promote research opportunities across primary care and community settings, developing strong relationships with GP practices and other NHS and non-NHS organisations. They will act as a key point of contact for research enquiries and support organisations interested in participating in research. They will work with researchers, clinicians and academic partners to ensure studies are coordinated effectively and that agreed actions and study requirements are progressed within appropriate timescales.
The role will support the identification and engagement of potentially eligible research participants in accordance with study protocols, research governance requirements and appropriate clinical oversight. The post-holder will maintain accurate study records and documentation and will undertake relevant research training, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP), where required.
Alongside the research element of the role, the post-holder will provide additional care coordination capacity within St Andrews Medical Practice. They will support patients to understand and navigate agreed care and service pathways, manage appointments and follow-up actions and access appropriate information and services. They will help patients prepare for and follow up clinical conversations and support access to self-management education, wellbeing services, community resources, social prescribing and appropriate digital healthcare services.
The post-holder will work closely with patients, carers, primary and secondary care, community services, community pharmacy, mental health services, social care, voluntary organisations, care homes and other local providers. They will facilitate effective communication between services and help ensure that agreed actions, referrals, correspondence and follow-up requirements are progressed. Where delays, communication gaps or barriers to care are identified, the post-holder will troubleshoot these where appropriate or escalate them to the relevant clinician, manager or service.
Patient and public engagement will be an important element of the position. The post-holder will support the development of the practice Patient Participation Group and help coordinate patient meetings, educational sessions, awareness events and other engagement activities. The role will contribute to audit, quality improvement, service evaluation and research activity. This will include collecting and maintaining relevant patient, service and research data; supporting audits and written returns; monitoring agreed actions and outcomes; and helping identify themes and opportunities for improvement. The post-holder will contribute to the review and development of systems and processes that strengthen patient access, experience, care coordination and research delivery.
The post-holder will organise and attend relevant practice, research, multidisciplinary and stakeholder meetings. They may coordinate agendas and supporting documentation, accurately record decisions and actions and ensure agreed actions are followed up within required timescales. They will also support practice and research projects from initiation through to delivery, maintaining appropriate documentation, action logs and progress updates.
A key part of the role will be building positive and effective relationships. The post-holder will work with Higher Education Institutions, research networks, GP practices, clinicians, Practice Managers, community organisations, care homes, patients and other stakeholders. They will respond to telephone, email and face-to-face enquiries relating to primary care and community research and ensure complex issues are escalated appropriately.
The role will be embedded within the St Andrews Medical Practice team, providing an opportunity to develop research alongside everyday primary care delivery. The post-holder will contribute to the development of systems and processes that improve research activity, patient engagement, coordination and service delivery and will participate in education, training and sharing good practice with clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
We welcome candidates from a range of professional backgrounds. Applicants may have a clinical background, such as nursing, physician associate or another healthcare profession, but we are equally keen to hear from non-clinical candidates with relevant experience and a strong interest in clinical research, primary care, community health or population health.
Previous clinical research experience is desirable but is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to build effective relationships with patients, clinicians, researchers and partner organisations. The successful candidate should be able to manage competing priorities, work independently, use initiative and recognise when matters require escalation or clinical input.
Appropriate training and support will be provided, including research-specific training and Good Clinical Practice where required. The post-holder will be encouraged to identify their learning and development needs and participate in relevant training, education and professional development opportunities.
The successful candidate will be professional, approachable, organised, flexible and self-motivated, with a genuine interest in developing research within primary care and improving patient experience. They will be confident working across organisational boundaries and able to balance research, patient coordination and project responsibilities effectively.
The role is predominantly office-based at St Andrews Medical Practice/Barnet Primary Care Research Unit, Monday to Friday, although flexibility and travel across Barnet may be required to support engagement with GP practices, community services, care homes and other research partners.
The post-holder will be expected to work in accordance with confidentiality, NHS information governance, data protection, research governance and Good Clinical Practice requirements. They must recognise and appropriately escalate concerns relating to patient safety, safeguarding, risk, quality or research governance.
The post-holder will not independently undertake clinical assessment, diagnosis or treatment unless this falls within their own professional registration, competence and an expressly agreed clinical element of the role. Care coordination responsibilities do not replace clinical decision-making, and clinical concerns must be escalated appropriately.
Success in the role will be demonstrated through effective coordination of research study set-up and delivery, increased research engagement and participation, accurate study records and data, effective coordination of practice and patient actions, timely responses to stakeholders and the development of positive working relationships across primary care, research, academic and community partners.
