Job summary
Senior Practitioner Psychologist in Staff Wellbeing (1.0WTE, 8a)
The Staff Wellbeing and Support Service is seeking a Senior Practitioner Psychologist to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support to staff within the Health Board. This is an exciting new post, with significant opportunity to develop and deliver valued and inclusive support to staff.
You will be key in supporting our staff to live valued lives both within and outside of work, working in collaboration with people who access our service to formulate complex difficulties and provide tailored brief psychological support. Where required, this support will be trauma-focused, with part of this role offering trauma therapy to staff who have experienced workplace trauma.
We are a small but dedicated team, and we value flexibility, consistency and support for our own wellbeing as well as the Health Board values of compassion, openness and respect. We have good connections with the North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme, and welcome trainees into our service.
If you feel that you would relish the opportunity to make a significant difference to staff within the Health Board, please do get in touch - we'd love to hear from you.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Please note that this role is a pan-BCU role; you will be required to travel across the BCUHB footprint to work.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will undertake a range of assessments with staff and, based on this assessment, will provide intervention or signpost to appropriate services. There will be a significant requirement to promote psychological thinking across the Health Board, particularly with staff groups who may not see the need to engage in initiatives around their own wellbeing. Supervision of others, delivery of training, and service development will also form an integral part of this role.
We are passionate about supporting staff with trauma, and embedding reflective practice into the Health Board. Therefore, the post holder will have opportunities to help us to continue developing these two important areas.
The post holder will also be a member of the BCUHB Psychology & Psychological Services for Physical Health Department, which is a supportive, friendly and growing department of Clinical Psychologists working within physical health services across BCUHB and has strong links with the North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme. Continuing professional development and research is actively supported within the department. This post provides the ideal opportunity to gain experience in applying clinical psychology within a highly specialist setting.

Michaela works as a Senior Healthcare Assistant on our Inpatient Ward and here's what she has to say about her role.
"I love working here, as we are one big family. Its hard to describe just how amazing the care the Hospice provides is, and I feel proud and lucky to be part of the team."
Our Inpatient Ward provides holistic care and support to patients and their loved ones so that they can hopefully feel well enough to go home again or stay with us for end-of-life care. We are committed to creating a calm and welcoming environment where patients can rest comfortably and receive high standards of care that they need.
This is a rewarding role where you will help deliver compassionate, person-centred care to patients with palliative and end of life needs, working under the direction of our experienced registered professionals within our specialist hospice setting.
You will join a professional, skilled and compassionate team dedicated to putting patients and those close to them at the heart of everything they do. We are also committed to ongoing learning and development, helping you build your skills, confidence and experience within specialist palliative care.
This role is for 28 hours per week (worked over a full rotation of shifts). *Night shifts also receive a £15 night allowance per night worked.
Main duties of the job
JOB PURPOSE

Flexible working will be required to meet the needs of the patients group and will include working evenings, weekends and nights as part of the nursing rota.
About us
St John's Hospice is a well established and respected local charity, and we offer free palliative care to patients with life shortening conditions both in our Inpatient Ward Unit and through our Community Services (Hospice at Home).
The Inpatient Ward provides care for patients and their families so that they can hopefully feel well enough to go home again, or stay at the Hospice for end of life care: not everyone who comes to St Johns Hospice comes here to die, very many go home again. We provide care for people with a range of life shortening illnesses such as cancer, respiratory diseases, heart conditions, Parkinsons and many other diseases. Our ward provides short stay care, from days to weeks, depending on the patients needs and what care other teams can provide for them.
Our Ward is led by an experienced and supportive Management Team. Our patients are at the heart of everything we do, and you would play a key role in a person's wish to stay, and be cared for on our Inpatient ward, providing crucial care for them and their loved ones.

Registered nurses and Allied Health Professionals interested in joining UHNM are encouraged to explore our registered professional opportunities, which are advertised regularly across the Trust.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Hywel Dda serves a population of approximately 385,000 people across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, covering over a quarter of the landmass of Wales making it one of the most geographically extensive Health Boards in the UK.
This is Emergency Medicine in its truest sense: high acuity decision making, clinical autonomy, strong consultant influence and meaningful impact on local communities.
If you are a newly appointed CCT doctor we will support your transition into independent consultant practice through a strong induction, named consultant support, and the opportunity to develop a portfolio interest.
The Roles
Newly appointed consultants will be supported through a strong induction, named consultant support and opportunities to develop portfolio interests.
We are particularly keen to attract consultants with an interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, or those wishing to develop paediatrics as a specialist or portfolio area. There are also opportunities in education and simulation, service improvement, clinical leadership, and specialist interests such as trauma or pre hospital care, alongside regional and system level working.
Emergency Medicine in Hywel Dda
Our Emergency Departments serve diverse urban, rural and remote populations, including areas with significant seasonal tourism pressures and an ageing population with complex needs. Long travel distances mean senior decision making genuinely matters, creating a challenging but professionally rewarding environment where consultant presence has a real impact on patient care. Many colleagues describe this as Emergency Medicine with purpose, where leadership is visible and valued.
Why Hywel Dda?
We prioritise supportive, stable consultant teams, with a strong emphasis on kindness, collaboration and pragmatism. There are genuine opportunities to develop clinical, educational and leadership roles, alongside a clear commitment to worklife balance and wellbeing. Welsh speaking ability is welcomed but not essential. As a University Health Board, Hywel Dda also benefits from strong academic links and opportunities for teaching and professional development.
Life in West Wales
West Wales offers a compelling lifestyle advantage, with stunning coastline, beaches, national parks and excellent outdoor opportunities.
